Last updated 30 July 2026. This site is a static set of pages with no accounts, no comments and no forms, so there is very little to describe.
01 — SummaryThe short version
This site sets no cookies, runs no analytics, hosts no forms, and loads no files from third-party servers — the fonts and images are served from this domain. Nothing you do here is tracked, profiled or shared.
The only data processed is what any web server records when it answers a request, described below.
02 — Server logsWhat the server records
Like effectively every website, the server that delivers these pages keeps standard access logs. Those typically contain the requesting IP address, the date and time, the page or file requested, the referring page if the browser sends one, and the browser's user-agent string.
This is used only to keep the site running and secure — diagnosing errors, and identifying abusive traffic. It is not used to build a profile of you, and it is not combined with anything else.
The logs are held by our hosting provider on our behalf and retained under that provider's own retention policy. They are not sold, rented or shared for marketing.
04 — Third partiesThird-party content
Every asset on these pages — stylesheet, fonts, photographs, diagrams and the map PDFs — is served from this domain. Your browser makes no request to any other company while reading this site, so no third party observes your visit.
Pages do link out to other organisations by name where that is useful. Following such a link takes you to a site with its own privacy practices, which this policy does not cover.
05 — EU / UKIf you are visiting from the EU or UK
Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, the lawful basis for processing server-log data is legitimate interest — operating and securing the site. No special-category data is processed, no automated decision-making takes place, and there is no marketing use.
You have the right to ask what is held about you, to ask for it to be corrected or erased, to object to the processing, and to complain to your data-protection authority. Because the logs contain no account or name, identifying your records generally requires the IP address and approximate time of your visit. Write to [email protected].
06 — ChangesChanges to this policy
If the site ever gains something that does process data — an analytics tool, a submission form for the thru-hiker register, or an externally hosted font — this page will be updated in the same change, and the date above will move.
