Neusiok Trail Notes

Water------Take water. There is no water at the parking areas. While there are water pumps at the three shelters you should not count on the pumps to be working. Do not drink the water from the creeks with out filtering and or treating. Check the forum for updates on the water pumps and other trail conditions.

Never noticed before but the campground next to the parking lot at the Oyster Point Campgrounds does have water at about 3 or 4 loctions. Don't know if this is new or something I just missed the last time I drove thru the camp grounds. The water pumps are painted blue. The paint looks new.

Rest rooms with vault toilets are available at the Pine Cliffs and Oyster Point Parking areas.

You do not need special shoes to hike this trail. Most tennis shoes or even sandles will work just fine.

Most cell phones will work anywhere on the trail.

Part of the trail at the Pine Cliffs section is also shared by horse back riders. Only real problem here is you have to watch out for horse apples on the trail. You may also encounter mountain bikers on the trail.

Much of the trail goes thru areas that used by hunters in the fall so it is advisable to wear some orange clothing/hat November thru December

Ticks can be a problem all year but mostly during the warmer times of the year. Be sure and inspect yourself for ticks after each hike...I do.

So be sure to use a good bug spray and check yourself after the hike. Deer flies, chiggers and mosquitoes can also be a problem during the warmer parts of year. The flies, chiggers, and mosquitoes will let you know if your bug spray is working and or if you missed any spots..

Recommended gear........

  • Water
  • Camera
  • Hiking poles
  • Bug juice (warm weather)
  • Map of area

I took most of the pictures used on this site and "young hiker" you see is my son Jeff who goes with me on most of the hikes. He says he only goes with me for the snacks and hot chocolate. The few pictures of me were taken by Jeff.

This information is for your personal use only and while I have hiked the entire trail and some sections many times I do not guarantee the information to be 100 % accurate as trail conditions change during the year due to weather and ongoing trail maintenance, fires ect so use at your own risk.

For more updated information check the forum at Neusiok Trail Forum

I try and get out and hike parts of the trail every week, work and weather permitting. If you wish to join me; drop me an email at info@pondplants.biz. I am not a speed hiker and my only agenda is to have a good time while hiking. I also use these hikes to test new packpacking gear (clothes, stoves, food ect).

So what are you waiting for...Go take a hike !
