  • Wet Trail

Had a lot of rain the past few days but on Sunday it cleared up but I had to work. So Monday I took Sam out on the trail so he could burn off some energy and I could check out the section of trail between Hwy 101 and Hwy 306. Did this as an out and back for a five mile hike. Weather was very cool but it did warm up, Sun was very bright with just a slight breeze.

Glad there were plenty of boardwalks along this section of the trail as much of the trail was under water from a few inches to a foot or two. There were a few places that the water was up to the bottom of the boardwalk. Of course Sam had to check out all the water to make sure it met with his approval ( it did ).

Came across two guys who were hiking the trail North to South. They were using a NC trail guide book that was about 20 years old and they said the information in it was way off.

On the way back I did see a pack of hunting dogs ( heard them long before I saw them ). They ran across the trail in front of us and then turned around and ran back the way they came. Sam was not too sure what to make of them. A few minutes later I did see one hunter.

There were a few places on the trail cover with water but nothing I could not walk around.

There are several fire breaks one must cross and this is the largest.. The trail picks back up to the right.
